International Students
GW Pre-College invites international students to apply to our programs. We issue I-20 documentation for F-1 visas for students applying to the College Intensive 6-week program only. Full-time study of two courses is required for this program. See below for eligibility requirements. Students interested in other programs often attend on other eligible visitor visas.
Eligibility: College Intensive 6-Week Session
International students who are currently the equivalent of grade 10 or 11 in the U.S. (expected graduation 2014 and 2015) may apply to our College Intensive 6-week session. Students should be academically qualified to manage the challenges of university-level work, and those for whom English is a second language must have demonstrated proof of English language proficiency by meeting the minimum required scores for one of the tests below:
- Internet-based TOEFL: 80
- Paper-based TOEFL: 550
- IELTS: Overall band score of 6.0 and no individual band score below 5.0
Full-time study (6 credit hours) is a requirement of this program for students requesting an F-1 visa. You will need to demonstrate financial ability to support full-time summer study in order for GW to issue the I-20 Certificate of Eligibility (required for an F-1 visa). Students with TOEFL scores between 550 and 600 (or other equivalents) are required to take one English for Academic Purposes course.
Eligibility: College Intensive (3-Week and 1-Week Sessions) and Summer Immersion program
GW does not issue documentation for F-1 visa sponsorship for the College Intensive 3-week and 1-week sessions or the Summer Immersion program. Admitted international students typically attend on other eligible visitor visas. GW does not issue documentation to assist with an application for a visitor visa.
International students who are currently enrolled in the equivalent of grades 9-11 may apply to our Summer Immersion programs. Students currently enrolled in the equivalent of grade 10 or 11 may apply to our College Intensive programs.
Students for whom English is a second language must have demonstrated proof of English language proficiency through unofficial test scores. The 3-week and 1-week College Intensive sessions require proof of minimum 550 TOEFL or equivalent IELTS.
Although a minimum score is not required, we recommend applicants demonstrate ability to score 550 on the paper-based TOEFL (or other equivalents) for Summer Immersion programs.
